Summary of Exhibition/ Event:
The Powell County Museum and Arts Foundation in Deer Lodge, MT is proud to present the upcoming exhibition “Spacious Skies.” The exhibition, consisting of a series of vibrant landscape oil paintings on board by Butte artist Cindy Betka, will be on view at the PEN Art Gallery in Deer Lodge from April 30 until September 30, 2015. This beautiful new series of work by Betka, inspired by the Montana skies, will be available for purchase.  PCMAF is a local, non-profit membership organization in Deer Lodge which operates the Old Montana Prison as a museum. PCMAF also oversees and operates the Montana Auto Museum, the Frontier Museum, Yesterday’s Playthings, Cottonwood City, the Powell County Museum and the PEN Art Gallery as part of the Old Prison Complex.
The Old Prison Complex brings approximately 50,000 visitors to the region annually to experience the 19th century prison fortress and learn about 140 years of Montana correctional history. Visitors also have the opportunity to view changing art exhibitions and remarkable collections of antique autos, firearms, dolls and toys, historic clothing, furniture and household items and numerous other artifacts related to regional history.

The ‘Spacious Skies’ series is all about the lighting that comes from above the vast skies over Montana. The colors are at their most spectacular and luminous at early dawn and dusk. It is at these times I concentrate most on the scenes. However, I also notice and try to capture the moments in-between. I love the way the skies are doubled in the reflecting waters. Blessed with living on this beautiful land surrounded by forest and over-looking the divide, my painting ideas could fill a lifetime.” — Cindy Betka

The Powell County Museum and Arts Foundation will hold an exhibition opening reception for “Spacious Skies” from 5:00 to 7:30 P.M. on April 30, 2015 in the PEN Art Gallery, 925 Main Street in Deer Lodge. The artist will be present to meet with museum visitors and complimentary wine and hors d’ oeuvres will be provided. The event will be free to the public. We hope to see you there!
